Adrants: Would You Work on A Brand That Could Cause Death or Blindness?

Would I? Have I? Does Burnett still sell smokes?

Anything can kill you, if you do it just right. Where I draw the line is working on political advertising, even if I believe in the candidate/cause. I also avoid selling directly to kids and selling anything pharmaceutical to anybody.

    Yeah, I'm poor.

I honestly think this is one kind of advertising where you can do the most social good. People buy cars to get from A to B; they buy food not to starve. It's only when they consume something harmful that the benefits will be mostly intangible.

You can't sell a purely cool car, because it still has practical purpose. You can sell a purely cool cigarette (and they will sell, sell, sell), because you can define the product entirely in terms of how cool it makes you.

Modern art can sell the same way, but you can't advertise it, since each piece gets its cool-factor from being unique.

In economic time such as these, I'm sure many employees morals take a back seat to paying the bills. I'm sure many, many people still tackle this issue on a daily basis. Trying to determine if the company they work for is worth the hassle and suppression of their personal beliefs.
