If the guitar is the one in the vidoe - then the only damage visible was the broken neck. Guitar cases are very tough and provide a huge amount of padding, support and protection for the contents.

What is now widely known is that when flying with a guitar, you must release the tension in the strings, because in a cold hold - the strings contract, placing the neck under huge tension and may lead to a broken guitar neck. But I expect a professional musician would have done that.

But it is strange that the only damage appears to be exactly what would have happened if the strings were not loosened.

Yeah, handing over 'spaynsive valuables that have more value than money (like an artist's instrument) to some goons always blows. But, in this dude's case, it was a Taylor. Nice work, United.

This is assuming that everything happened exactly the way the artist says. As a airline customer, it's very likely, but shouldn't we be more careful before we trash a company like that?
