    Country music blows.

This is assuming that everything happened exactly the way the artist says. As a airline customer, it's very likely, but shouldn't we be more careful before we trash a company like that?

Yeah, handing over 'spaynsive valuables that have more value than money (like an artist's instrument) to some goons always blows. But, in this dude's case, it was a Taylor. Nice work, United.

Social media now gives consumers a voice that was so often burried by more powerful companies who did not need to listen or respond. Dave Carroll, the musician who took his story to YouTube, has changed the rules of engagement for organizations and customer service protocol from now on.

This public relations campaign continues to gather momentum with the musician asking United Airlines to donate their offer to pay for the damaged guitar to charity. http://mktgcliks.blogspot.com/2009/07/united-br...

If the guitar is the one in the vidoe - then the only damage visible was the broken neck. Guitar cases are very tough and provide a huge amount of padding, support and protection for the contents.

What is now widely known is that when flying with a guitar, you must release the tension in the strings, because in a cold hold - the strings contract, placing the neck under huge tension and may lead to a broken guitar neck. But I expect a professional musician would have done that.

But it is strange that the only damage appears to be exactly what would have happened if the strings were not loosened.
