"Roosevelts" is a riff off Diddy's "It's All About the Benjamins," - (Quote)

No it's not. It is a newly commissioned and unreleased original track. Hope this helps clear the confusion.

But it still is. Even if the tune is different. The joke "it's all about the roosevelts" is a pop culture reference to "it's all about the Benjamins" which was written by Puff Daddy.

Yes, obviously that's the whole point. The frame of reference of past pop culture replaced within the current economic climate. It's an irreverent joke. Fine by me. Angela Natividad however, erroneously suggested that a musical part had also been carried over which is plainly not the case.

I never said the music itself carried over from "It's All About the Benjamins" -- I said it riffed off the statement.

Anyone with ears will gather that the music isn't the same. But hey, I'll clarify.

Angela, the above was your original text. I see you have now changed it in the main body of the article - quite right too. As you will be aware, to also use the word "riff" when referring to something in a musical context can be misleading. Not sure if that was your original intention but glad you have now made the clear distinction that this is in fact, a new work. Thank you.

New work, maybe, but still derivative. “Riff” seems more than appropriate.

OK, but ultimately, I like it. Whether it is fashionable to or not to do so. I must add that I don't profess to know a great deal about the genre, or understand it completely, or the culture around it, or the young people to whom to appears to be aimed at or even what is at it's core as a reason for being. It is mostly outside my frame of reference. People are appearing eager to set themselves up as 'urban savants' whilst at the same time finding it necessary to approach a critique from a glass half-empty rather than a glass half-full perspective - and that is considering that this genre of music has always 'borrowed heavily' or even 'sampled' wholesale both from within and outside itself and indeed continues to do so. I guess, overall it does indeed seem more than appropriate to use the word "riff" in this context. In fact, I couldn't agree more. I've been converted. Thanks again.

There's nothing embarrassing about "It's All About the Benjamins." It's a great track. At any rate, thanks for posting this.
